Leaders Never Stop Learning - What Are You Reading Today?
The story is told of a seasoned leader perusing the bookshelf behind the desk of a young leader. When asked if he was looking for anything in particular, the older leader responded, "I'm just seeing when you died."
That got the attention of the younger leader. "What do you mean, when I died?" The response stopped him up short. "I'm seeing when you stopped reading. You stopped learning. When you stopped growing. Really, when you died."
Dramatic for sure, but perhaps not too far off.
One of my favorite things to learn from seasoned, long standing leaders is what they are learning today, what they are reading today, how they are growing today.
So I'd love to know, what are you reading today? Snap a photo and add it to the chat. Would you recommend it? What's one key takeaway that you have benefited from?
Here's one of my latest reads: "Lead with And" by Tim Arnold (good Canadian author and leader!)
In a world that seems to embrace "either / or" thinking, Tim encourages leaders to embrace "both / and". He provides a compelling argument that many of today's most complex challenges—such as balancing confidence with humility, results with relationships, or change with stability—are not problems to solve but tensions to manage. Effective leaders recognize and navigate these polarities with intentionality, allowing them to lead with greater adaptability, wisdom, and impact.
So what are you reading? What are you learning? Love your feedback so together we can continue to grow and stay fresh in our leadership!
